German pagan folk band FAUN have unveiled a new single and accompanying music video for ‘Lady Isobel’, a tender and introspective ballad. The song offers a first glimpse into their forthcoming album, Hex, due for release on 5 September via Pagan Folk Records.

Inspired by a poem written by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Oliver Satyr, "Lady Isobel" paints a haunting portrait of a mysterious woman seemingly confined within the solitude of her own inner tower. Laced with poetic imagery and enriched by the band’s signature blend of flutes and synthesizers, FAUN once again showcase their gift for crafting immersive soundscapes that transcend genre boundaries.

Speaking about the track, Satyr shares: “‘Lady Isobel’ originated from a poem I wrote about a close friend. The lute part draws inspiration from artists like Nick Drake and Bert Jansch. With the beautiful vocals, flutes, synth textures, and rhythms contributed by my bandmates, the song has become a gently floating ballad that I’m truly proud of.”

‘Lady Isobel’ follows a string of recent releases from FAUN, including ‘Lament’, ‘Blot’, ‘Umay’, and their haunting reinterpretation of Nick Drake’s ‘Black Eyed Dog’ - all of which will feature on their forthcoming album Hex.

The album’s title, drawn from the German word “hexe” (meaning witch), delves into the rich and complex narratives surrounding witches, female healers, and wise women throughout history. Steering clear of the classic fairytale trope of the wicked witch, FAUN aim to shed light on the diverse expressions of female magic across cultures.
