Roadrunner Records has officially announced the upcoming release of DECADES, the latest studio album from the platinum-selling Scranton, Pennsylvania powerhouse MOTIONLESS IN WHITE. Scheduled to arrive on JULY 17, the album is currently available for pre-order here.
For more than two decades, Motionless In White have found their sanctuary within the darkness. The quintet, comprised of Chris Motionless [vocals], Ricky Olson [guitar], Ryan Sitkowski [guitar], Vinny Mauro [drums], and Justin Morrow [bass], has occupied a unique and shadowy niche within alternative music and culture. By blending an uncanny alchemy of metal, hardcore, goth, industrial, and electronic elements, they have cultivated a fiercely loyal following. This magnetic connection has fueled their steady ascent from the Rust Belt to become a headlining force of nature in major arenas. At the heart of this journey is a relentless D.I.Y. work ethic that continues to drive the evolution of an immersive world, one where striking visuals are crafted to match the ambitious scope of their sound.
On their seventh full-length offering, Decades, the collective effectively comes full circle. While the LP masterfully conjures their signature style, it also finds the band confidently carving a path through uncharted creative territory, leaving a trail of darkness in their wake.
To celebrate the announcement, the band has also released a lyric video for their ferocious new single, ‘Playing God’ (Featuring Corey Taylor).
Chris Motionless expresses genuine shock at the sheer intensity of the vocal delivery, exclaiming, "I can't believe how aggressive Corey sounds." He explains that the track serves as a pointed critique of the modern digital landscape, describing it as "an observational commentary on toxic internet culture and the people who perpetuate it. The internet has gotten worse and worse to the point where only negativity, hatred, and lies are at the forefront of everything you see. It's very frustrating because I thought social media was supposed to be a mechanism to connect, but all it does is divide."
The album, titled Decades, is bolstered by a diverse and impressive roster of guest musicians. Beyond the contribution from Corey Taylor, the record also highlights performances from Skylar Grey and Anthony Martinez of Dark Divine. The production process took place across both Upstate New York and Los Angeles, where the band collaborated with co-producers Drew Fulk and Justin "JD" deBlieck. Together, they meticulously blended the band's historical influences with their current style and forward-thinking experimentation to create a unified sonic experience. This era represents Motionless In White reaching their creative peak.
Reflecting on their journey, Chris notes that their longevity is a testament to their boldness, stating, "We were never afraid to take risks. This band has not only lasted two decades, but we've also outlasted all of the obstacles we've faced. We're still grinding. No matter how far we expand the universe that is Motionless In White, we're going to preserve the heart, soul, and roots of where we came from. We are never going to abandon heartfelt, emotional, and heavy songs. We are never going to abandon what mattered to us the most when we started. We're finding new ways to emphasize those stories with exciting sounds and looks, but the vision is the same. It's always been this grand, dramatic, and theatrical entity. I'm proud we haven't gotten comfortable."
In his final thoughts on the new material, he suggests that the state of society directly influenced the record's sonic weight. He concludes by noting, "Decades is definitely heavier than some of our past albums. Our current world bred more aggressive energy, anger, and resistance."
