Acclaimed rock trio Against the Current are officially launching the next chapter of their journey with the release of ‘Protégé,’ the brand-new single taken from their eagerly anticipated third studio album, Till Death & Back, set to drop on 30th October 2026.
To mark the occasion alongside the new track, the band will launch official physical pre-orders for the album on vinyl and CD this Friday, granting fans their most complete look to date at the immersive sonic world they have been shaping throughout this defining era. The milestone release comes as the group graces the current cover of Kerrang! magazine.
Executive produced by Against the Current’s own Will Ferri, Till Death & Back sees the group joining forces with a stellar production team, including Erik Ron (Panic! at the Disco, Godsmack), Josh Gilbert (Spiritbox), Morwell, and Josh Saldata, to deliver their most cohesive, razor-sharp, and uncompromising body of work to date.
While earlier singles traversed themes of love, fate, survival, and deep devotion, ‘Protégé’ unveils an entirely new thematic layer to the upcoming record by diving into the complex dynamics of how individuals influence, mold, challenge, and ultimately redefine one another. The track masterfully shifts a seemingly familiar relationship dynamic into a far more psychologically charged territory.
The new release follows closely on the heels of previous singles ‘Always You & I’ and ‘Dead Man Walking,’ with each track serving as a distinct gateway into the album’s overarching narrative framework. Whereas ‘Always You & I’ tackled a timeless bond that defies circumstance and ‘Dead Man Walking’ confronted the brutal reality of survival and personal alienation, ‘Protégé’ expands the broader dialogue directly into the realm of interpersonal relationships, external influences, and power dynamics that dictate individual identity.
When viewed as a unified whole, these tracks reveal a record that steadfastly refuses to anchor itself to a single emotional landscape. Seamlessly moving between quiet intimacy and fierce confrontation, raw vulnerability and relentless defiance, as well as romanticism and underlying darkness, Till Death & Back mirrors the band's complete eagerness to step into the natural paradoxes that accompany genuine personal and artistic growth.
Speaking on the core thesis of the project, frontwoman Chrissy Costanza elaborated that, “fate is the thread running through every song on this album, the belief that what's meant for you is bound to you across time. The cost is the fire, the fight, the version of yourself you don't get back. Till Death & Back is the promise that no matter how far you go, the thread never breaks, not even in death.”
Ever since their initial emergence onto the alternative landscape, Against the Current have forged their career path around a continuous refusal to remain static. Tracing an arc from early pop-punk origins to an increasingly expansive alternative rock canvas, the band has consistently evolved their artistic voice without ever compromising the intense emotional grounding that first connected with listeners around the globe. Till Death & Back marks the latest natural progression in that ongoing trajectory.
Far from merely refining the musical blueprints of past eras, the new record finds Chrissy Costanza, Dan Gow, and Will Ferri leaning decisively into their shared creative maturity. The resulting album is built entirely on dynamic contrast: massive sonic arrangements paired with quiet, fragile moments; cinematic scope anchored by vulnerable songwriting; and tracks that feel deeply intimate while leaving ample space for fans to project their own experiences within them.
To celebrate the album’s release, Against the Current will return to the stage this Autumn for a comprehensive run of headline dates across the UK and Europe. Full tour dates and ticket details are listed below.
