ALBUM REVIEW: TYLER THE CREATOR - DON’T TAP THE GLASS (21/07/25)

Tyler the Creator continues to be an unstoppable force with surprise new album DON’T TAP THE GLASS.

Tyler the Creator isn’t one for a long album build up, but with the first hint coming only 5 days ago via Instagram, this new drop really was a bombshell. Amongst his world tour for No. 1 album CHROMAKOPIA, released just 8 months ago, Tyler has managed to produce a dynamic, bouncing, hit of a record.

Letting go is at the heart of DON’T TAP THE GLASS. Tyler wants you to ditch your phone, ditch your inhibitions and let the music take over. He explains his inspiration on Instagram: “I asked some friends why they don’t dance in public and some said because of the fear of being filmed”. Exasperated at us all losing “a natural form of expression”, he’s pulled 10 beat-heavy tracks out the bag for the final sweaty summer nights ahead.

Despite aiming for offline plays, this is the most likely of his recent work to be ‘TikTok’ified’. By leaning into pop within tracks like ‘Sugar On My Tongue’ and ‘Ring Ring Ring’, this album will definitely garner mass appeal. Although in a world of chronic disconnection and screen addiction, reaching as many people as possible is surely the point.

As Tyler says himself: “This album was not made for sitting still. Dancing, driving, running, any type of movement is recommended to maybe understand the spirit of it. Only at full volume.” Put your phone away, take the record outside and enjoy.

DON’T TAP THE GLASS out now via Columbia Records, available on all streaming platforms.
