Beloved indie-folk trio Big Thief have announced their sixth studio album, Double Infinity, set for release on September 5th via 4AD. The news arrives alongside the release of the album’s lead single and opening track, ‘Incomprehensible’.
Recorded last winter at the Power Station, New York City, Double Infinity follows their critically acclaimed 2022 double LP Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You, and is rumored to deepen their sonic palette while holding fast to the emotional honesty that’s defined their catalog.
Double Infinity was brought to life in a deeply collaborative and immersive environment. Over the course of the sessions, Big Thief was joined by a vibrant community of musicians - Alena Spanger, Caleb Michel, Hannah Cohen, Jon Nellen, Joshua Crumbly, June McDoom, Laraaji, Mikel Patrick Avery, and Mikey Buishas- playing together for up to nine hours a day. These sessions were fully live, tracked simultaneously with minimal overdubs, allowing space for spontaneous arrangements and shared discoveries. The album was produced, engineered, and mixed by longtime Big Thief collaborator Dom Monks, capturing a raw, organic energy that reflects the band’s commitment to collective intuition and emotional immediacy.
