The acclaimed Australian trio DMA’S have officially revealed that their upcoming self-titled studio album is slated for release on 7 August through Wonderlick Entertainment, Sony Music Australia, and RCA UK. To celebrate the news, the group has unveiled a fresh glimpse of the project with their new stadium-ready single ‘Heatin Park,’ accompanied by an official music video filmed across various locations in the United Kingdom and Melbourne.
In discussing the band's fifth full-length effort and the latest track, Matt Mason of DMA’S explained the creative spark behind the music. “Heatin Park started as an old forgotten demo banged into a new sound for us, and that collision is what gives it its feral energy. The album is called DMA’S because that’s exactly what it is and we’re keen to play it for you all.” Featuring lead guitar work reminiscent of My Bloody Valentine and textured with gritty, distorted vocal delivery, ‘Heatin Park’ stands in stark contrast to the melodic sensibilities of the previous single, ‘My Baby’s Place.’ That earlier track reached full rotation on triple j and peaked as the #1 Most Played song, serving as a testament to the diverse sonic palette explored throughout this new record.
The self-titled album was written and recorded between the group's personal studio in Glebe, Sydney, and Los Angeles, representing a pivotal moment in their career that highlights the growth of their anthemic sound through innovative textures. Much of the record was co-produced by the band alongside Grammy-nominated producer Lach Bostock, with additional creative contributions from Jimi Somewhere and Styalz Fuego.
Well-known for their high-octane live shows on massive global stages such as Glastonbury, Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Splendour in the Grass, DMA’S intend to bring this new material to life during an Australian headline tour later this year. The run begins in Brisbane this November before moving through Melbourne and concluding with a major hometown performance at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt. For fans who were unable to attend the sold-out Hills End anniversary concert in Sydney this past March, the band will be performing a special Hills End set in addition to debuting new material and revisiting their various cult hits.
Before their Australian dates and following a successful, sold-out 10th-anniversary tour of the UK in February, the trio will return to the United Kingdom for a series of shows in May. These include performances at Nottingham’s Rock City on Wednesday the 20th and Thursday the 21st, Norwich UEA on Friday the 22nd, and a stop at Warrington Neighbourhood on Sunday the 24th.
This new project further cements a prestigious history that includes four critically acclaimed albums: Hills End, For Now, THE GLOW, and How Many Dreams. Each of these releases secured high positions on the ARIA charts in Australia, while THE GLOW and How Many Dreams reached #4 and #3 respectively on the UK album charts. To date, the band has earned over 500 million streams across their entire discography, achieved four multi-platinum singles, and received numerous ARIA Award nominations, including a win for Best Group in 2023. Their cultural impact is further highlighted by 13 tracks appearing in the triple j Hottest 100, notably their Like A Version cover of Cher’s "Believe," which was recognized as the greatest Like A Version of all time in 2023.
