FAUN RELEASE NEW STUDIO ALBUM

Copyright: Athina Parras

Renowned pagan folk band FAUN have unveiled their latest album, Hex, out now via Pagan Folk Records. With this release, FAUN return to their musical origins — weaving mystical, archaic folk sounds with enchanting ballads that guide listeners on a captivating journey through the ancient realms of female magic and pagan mythology.

The album’s title, Hex, is derived from the German word "hexe", meaning witch, and thematically delves into the stories of wise women, healers, and so-called witches across history. Far from the tired fairytale stereotype, FAUN seek to reclaim and honour the diverse expressions of female power in global traditions - while raising a powerful question: why do we still fear the witches, and not those who burned them?

Speaking on the release, the band shares: "The day has come. Our new album HEX is finally out! Step with us into a world of spells, myths and magic. "

To mark the release of Hex, FAUN have unveiled a brand new music video for the spellbinding track ‘Belladonna’ - the final single from the album. Named after the infamous poisonous nightshade and legendary witch’s plant, Belladonnadraws its name from the Italian term for “beautiful woman,” while its Latin form, Atropa Belladonna, references Atropos, one of the three Greek Fates who could sever the thread of life.

It’s this haunting duality - beauty and danger, allure and death - that inspired the song’s creation. Lush with melody and myth, ‘Belladonna’ is a striking ode to the powerful feminine archetype that sits at the heart of the new record.

Speaking about the single, the band explains: "Hecate is the Queen of all witches. Her realm is known as the 'Garden of Hecate'. Since she was closely associated with plant lore, the term 'Garden of Hecate' was also used for the plants of the nightshade family. Here in our song, a wanderer is lured by three witches into this garden, following the lure of the 'beautiful lady' in the darkest night."
