London’s own heavy wild make a triumphant return today with the release of their brand new single, ‘Lonely Dawn,’ marking their official debut on their new label home, Submarine Cat Records. Building upon the lo-fi, alternative rock sensibilities that defined last year’s Death Dreams EP, the track sees the band expanding their sonic horizons to unearth a newfound urgency. Anchored by a driving, heavy bass riff and propelled by a frenetic lead guitar line, the instrumentation masterfully mirrors feelings of frustration and disarray, constantly pushing and pulling the listener before finally erupting into a towering, cathartic crescendo.
Frontman Wolfgang Harte explains, “The song is about those moments in life when you realise how much everything has changed, whether that’s people or a situation, and how far away you are from a certain time. It’s about coming to terms with changes in life and feelings of helplessness often fuelled by regret.”
To accompany the single, the group has unveiled an intense music video for ‘Lonely Dawn’ that perfectly captures the friction pulsating at the core of the track. Directed by filmmaker Bobbie Sarangi, the visual offering seamlessly blends a gritty live performance from the band with striking imagery of riots, metamorphosis, and both religious and violent iconography.
Film-maker Bobbie Sarangi comments, “I wanted the video to show this sense of tensions simmering and boiling over, both on a personal and global level.”
The arrival of ‘Lonely Dawn’ coincides with the highly anticipated announcement of heavy wild signing to Submarine Cat Records. By joining a stellar roster that includes the likes of Swim Deep and FEET, this new partnership and single release together signal the definitive beginning of an enthralling new chapter for the band.
To celebrate the release, heavy wild are gearing up to embark on a run of headline shows. The tour kicks off tomorrow night at Hitchin’s Club 85, before heading south to Brighton's Green Door Store on 17th July, followed by a stop at the Sussex Arms in Tunbridge Wells on 24th July. The band will wrap up this run of dates with a performance at the Old Blue Last’s East London Block Party on 25th July.
Since making their live debut in October 2022, heavy wild have steadily carved out a distinct niche within the bustling London music scene. Rather than just writing songs, the group, helmed by songwriter Wolfgang Harte, has built an entire world for listeners to inhabit, garnering a dedicated fanbase drawn to their rich, lo-fi soundscapes and signature gothic aesthetic.
