KING PRINCESS DROPS NEW SINGLE
Copyright: Conor Cunningham
King Princess - the genre-defying project of Brooklyn-based artist Mikaela Straus - returns next month with her bold and emotionally charged third album, Girl Violence, out 12 September via section1. Following the release of previous singles ‘RIP KP’ and ‘Cry Cry Cry,’ today sees the arrival of ‘Girls’ - a sultry, spiraling dive into the grip of a toxic relationship.
Driven by Mikaela’s signature raspy vocals, moody organ tones, and vintage-style backup harmonies that echo romantic ’50s pop, ‘Girls’ simmers with longing before erupting into a distorted, guitar-laced climax. The track captures the darker essence of Girl Violence, where desire meets destruction and chaos is embraced in pursuit of intimacy. As King Princess puts it: “Girls. Bring me to my knees.”
To celebrate the release, King Princess is launching a global flash tattoo event on Saturday 13 September, in collaboration with a curated network of tattoo shops operated by women and LGBTQ+ artists across the US, Canada, Europe, LATAM, and Australia. Each shop will design exclusive flash sheets inspired by the album’s visual world. Everyone who gets tattooed during the event will be entered into a raffle to win signed vinyl, prints, official merch, and guest list spots for future King Princess shows.
In support of community and equity, King Princess, section1/Partisan, and participating tattoo shops will also be donating to local LGBTQ+ organizations in their respective regions.
King Princess is taking Girl Violence on the road later this year, launching a full North American tour before heading across the Atlantic for a UK and European run this December. The European leg kicks off in Dublin on December 3rd, hitting key cities including Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, and wrapping at London’s Electric Brixton on December 9th. Full tour dates are listed below, and tickets are on sale now.
The announcement of Girl Violence arrives as Mikaela Straus expands her creative reach beyond music. She’s currently making her television debut in the latest season of Nine Perfect Strangers on Hulu, acting alongside Nicole Kidman, and is set to make her feature film debut later this year in Song Sung Blue, starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson.
