FAUN SHARE HYPNOTIC NEW SONG
Copyright: Athina Parras
Pagan folk storytellers FAUN have returned with a spellbinding new single and music video, ‘Nimue’, a poetic ode to the mysterious figure from Arthurian legend known as The Lady of the Lake. The track is the latest offering from their upcoming album, Hex, set for release on 5 September via Pagan Folk Records.
The track features a haunting collaboration with gothic folk icon Chelsea Wolfe, whose ethereal presence lends a shadowy depth to the song’s already mystical atmosphere. With its lush instrumentation and lyrical storytelling, ‘Nimue’ is a mesmerizing glimpse into the world of Hex - an album that promises to dive deep into the mythic, the magical, and the beautifully unknown.
In folklore, Nimue appears in many forms - sorceress, water spirit, even goddess—and is often associated with the mythical sword Excalibur. But FAUN’s version reimagines her as a mortal huntress turned devoted student of the wizard Merlin, grounding the myth in raw humanity while preserving its enchantment.
FAUN continue to build anticipation for their upcoming album Hex with the release of their latest single - following previous tracks ‘Lady Isobel’, ‘Lament’, ‘Blot’, ‘Umay’, and a haunting cover of Nick Drake’s ‘Black Eyed Dog’.
Named after the German word for “witch” (Hexe), Hex is a concept album that delves into stories of witches, female healers, and wise women from different cultures. Rather than feeding into the classic fairy-tale trope of the “evil witch,” FAUN shine a light on the often-overlooked power, wisdom, and persecution of these women - inviting listeners to question why we still fear witches more than the people who once burned them.
Musically, Hex sees FAUN returning to their mystical, archaic folk roots, delivering enchanting ballads and atmospheric soundscapes crafted with exceptional virtuosity. Guided by the scholarly hand of Oliver Satyr (Magister Artium of Medieval Philology), the album’s lyrics are grounded in extensive historical research, offering a rich and immersive journey through the forgotten magic and myth of the past.
Hex will be available in multiple formats and is now available for pre-save and pre-order here.
