LIVE REVIEW + PHOTOS: CHLOE MORIONDO AT THE O2 ACADEMY ISLINGTON, LONDON 25/09/25
“You're like a little ocean waving hello to me” Chloe Moriondo quipped as the Islington academy swayed in sync to the sounds of her new album ‘Oyster’. On this, the last stop of her 10-date romp across Europe we are treated to an atmospheric experience at times, dance party at others.
Embarking on her first ever tour in support, Yuneki held the room in the palm of her hands as she gripped the microphone and poured her soul out to the room through the language of melancholy indie-pop.
You could hear a pin drop in the room as the singer, accompanied by her guitarist and harmonising backup vocalist delivered a beautiful series of tracks, from the sweet and cinematic ‘Sleepwalking’ to a song dedicated to anyone with mummy issues ‘Baby Teeth’.
The Cambridge based artist fearlessly bared her soul through chilled grooves, skilfully upbeat despite the heavy and deep topics that inspire her writing.
“I love this show so much it's gonna make me so sad to say goodbye to it,” Chloe Moriondo mused. London is the last stop on her tour of the UK and Europe and the lamenting of it coming to an end was seemingly shared by the crowd that hung on every note, thrilled at each song that was announced.
Moriondo switched between flitting around the stage, mic in hand, jumping off the risers in her see-through Barbie-esque platform heels to rocking out behind the mic with her bass during ‘Bodybag’ and also picking up a guitar or two, one of which is called Kitty and is covered in stickers. This duality in her style is also reflected in her sound. Many of her formative tracks are based in dreamy indie vibes such as the first track she ever wrote - ‘Manta Ray’, with certain new offerings leaning harder into an electronic, bassy and funky style fuelled with attitude such as on her latest release ‘girls with gills’.
“I have a feeling this is gonna be one of my favourite nights.” she grinned. Whether this declaration is hyperbole or not, the gathered fans didn't care, and the sing-alongs were plentiful from start to finish.
Moriondo's appreciation at everything and everyone was palpable. At moments she seemed overwhelmed by the cheers and mentioned endlessly how grateful she was for everyone gathered.
During ‘Pond’ torch lights went up around the room, Moriondo asked us if we wanted to come to Barbie party for the cute ‘Dress up’ and the scream of “ONE OF MY FAVOURITE ALBUMS” during ‘Cdbaby<3’ was off the charts.
All in all, the final stop on the Oyster tour was epitomised more by the joy that it happened rather than sadness it was over. Although, London certainly wouldn't ever say no to a return of their favourite nautical themed pop party if it came surfing back to town.
