Beloved emo trailblazers Mayday Parade return with Sad, the highly anticipated second chapter of their three-part album trilogy celebrating the band’s 20th anniversary. Following this spring’s Sweet, and ahead of the final installment due in 2026, Sad marks a milestone moment: the band’s first self-released project since their 2006 debut EP Tales Told By Dead Friends. Famously sold out of Vans Warped Tour parking lots, that DIY release went on to sell over 50,000 copies, laying the foundation for Mayday Parade’s two-decade legacy. The trilogy now stands as a full-circle celebration of where it all began.
The spotlight track from Sad is ‘Promises, a raw and devastatingly honest piece penned by drummer and vocalist Jake Bundrick, showcasing the band’s enduring ability to marry vulnerability with anthemic power.
Sad also features the previously released singles ‘One Day at a Time’ - a nostalgic meditation on growth and self-forgiveness - and ‘Under My Sweater,’ a track that channels the early-2000s pop-punk spirit that helped define a generation. Produced once again with longtime collaborators Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount, the record strikes a balance between atmosphere and introspection while retaining the sharp hooks, soaring choruses, and raw emotional honesty that have carried Mayday Parade through two decades.
With over 1.43 billion streams, multiple platinum and gold singles, and a catalog that has helped shape the landscape of modern emo and alternative rock, Mayday Parade remain as vital and energized as ever. The release of Sad coincides with the launch of their massive North American tour alongside All Time Low, kicking off next week and running through the fall, before expanding internationally in early 2026. The band is also set to return to this year’s When We Were Young Festival, reaffirming their place at the heart of the scene they helped define.
