Metal pioneers Slipknot are celebrating 25 years of chaos with a newly announced 25th Anniversary Edition of their iconic self-titled debut album - the record that launched the Iowa nine from underground noise-makers to metal’s most unpredictable and explosive cultural force.
Set for release on 5 September 2025 via Roadrunner Records, the reissue offers a deep dive into the making of the record that changed the heavy music landscape forever. Included across various formats are unreleased takes, alternate versions, early demos, and rare mixes from sessions at SR Audio, Indigo Ranch, and more - offering fans a behind-the-scenes look at the evolution of the band’s brutal vision.
The announcement follows a limited-edition drop of 100 blood-filled vinyl copies earlier this week, available only via the band’s secret site 742617000027.net. The exclusive release sold out within seconds, crashing the site and sparking buzz across the metal community.
To mark the occasion, Slipknot have also released an unheard demo of ‘Prosthetics”’ recorded before their sessions with Robinson at Indigo Ranch. This early version offers a glimpse into the band’s creative process, long before it was refined into the haunting final track that appeared on their debut.
The reissue also highlights Slipknot’s ferocious early live energy, featuring remixed and remastered soundboard recordings from their 1999 Hartford, CT show, and their breakthrough UK mainstage set from 2000. These performances capture the band at their most primal and unfiltered — a reminder of why Slipknot’s live show became legendary from the start.
More than just a re-release, the 25th Anniversary Edition is a time capsule of a band in metamorphosis - a raw and relentless force that not only defined a new generation of heavy music but carved a legacy few could match.
The full Slipknot experience from 1999 - finally, fully unearthed.
