The Favors (FINNEAS & Ashe) release their highly anticipated debut album, The Dream, via Darkroom Records. Alongside the album comes the high-spirited focus track ‘David’s Brother’ and its accompanying music video, directed by Claudia Sulewski and featuring the full band.
Crowned Jack Saunders’ Hottest Record on BBC Radio 1 this week, “David’s Brother” is an uptempo yet nostalgic anthem that captures the relatable tension of unexpectedly running into someone at a bar and grappling with self-restraint. The video, set against the same backdrop, spotlights the group’s effortless chemistry and genuine bond as they reminisce, laugh, and celebrate, embodying the joy and togetherness that fuel The Favors.
The song’s bright harmonies and alternating solo verses build naturally on the intimate, dialogue-driven style of previous singles ‘The Little Mess You Made’ and ‘The Hudson.’
At its core, The Dream is a no-rules project that revives the warmth and groove of 1970s pop with razor-sharp songwriting, lush harmonies, and a distinctly modern edge. Drawing inspiration from the golden era of Laurel Canyon, the record channels the sun-soaked storytelling of artists like Carole King and Simon & Garfunkel, reframed through a cinematic lens stretching from Los Angeles to New York City.
Fronted by longtime friends and collaborators FINNEAS and Ashe, who first captured hearts with their 2019 breakthrough ‘Moral of the Story’ and followed with 2021’s ‘Till Forever Falls Apart’, the album is deeply rooted in Los Angeles, where much of it was written and recorded face-to-face in FINNEAS’ living room alongside his solo bandmates Matthew Fildey (Ricky “Rat” Gourmet) and David Marinelli (Marinelli).
“It was just drums, an old CP80, electric piano, guitar, bass, and Ashe and me singing together,” Finneas recalls. “That’s how every artist dreams of making a record,” Ashe adds. “People don’t record live vocals together anymore—it felt so romantic and fun.” “It’s a true long-play album,” Finneas continues. “The kind you put on start to finish while cooking with friends.” “I want you to feel warm, fuzzy, and heartbroken all at once,” Ashe concludes.
