WOLF ALICE SHARE NEW TRACK

English rock band Wolf Alice have shared a new track titled ‘White Horses’, the latest song from their highly anticipated fourth album The Clearing, set for release 22 August.
Musically, ‘White Horses’ veers into new territory, drawing on trippy, dance-driven textures while staying rooted in the ‘70s rock DNA that runs through The Clearing. Its expansive energy opens up a world of possibilities, meandering through psychedelic tangents before reaching a euphoric crescendo. There’s a sense of quiet power in its restraint - an emotional clarity found in lyrics like: “Know who I am, that’s important to me / Do what I can to see the wood from the trees.”
‘White Horses’ is the only track on The Clearing to feature drummer Joel Amey on lead vocals, the song beginning with his voice before unfolding into a harmonious duet with Ellie. It originated as a rough demo, sparked by a few lines he jotted down in his notes app during a rare car ride with his mum, aunt, and sister.
Revisiting the lyrics toward the end of the album’s recording process, Joel developed the verse into a broader theme. He brought the skeleton of the song to the rest of the band, and together they built it out - crafting a piece that seamlessly aligns with the sound and emotional arc of The Clearing.
Joel explains, “I was inspired by what songs we had already that were becoming The Clearing; the sonic shapes we were creating, the big acoustics, the harmonies, but I wanted to underpin it with a driving krautrock beat.”
The lyrics are about his family, “We’ve never really known where we came in terms of heritage until recently. My mum and my aunt were adopted, and for years it posed questions of identity and where our roots lay for all of us, but for me, they never seemed like answers I needed to find out.”
“White Horses” follows the huge album singles “Bloom Baby Bloom” and, most recently, “The Sofa” - released just after the band’s triumphant sunset set on Glastonbury’s Other Stage, a performance that left more than a few tears in the crowd. Mixing fan favourites like “Bros” and “Don’t Delete The Kisses” with new material, the set felt like a victory lap for a band operating at the height of their powers.
Written in Seven Sisters and recorded in Los Angeles with Grammy-winning producer Greg Kurstin, The Clearing arrives August 22nd. It captures where Wolf Alice stand in 2025: bold, self-assured, and endlessly imaginative. Bursting with ambition, heart, and sonic exploration, The Clearing is more than just a new chapter—it’s a timeless statement from a band still evolving, and still unafraid to ask big questions.
